Yard Dawgz Recognize Four Women City Leaders in Home Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY - In honor of Ladies Night, the theme for Saturday night's home opener against the South Georgia Wildcats, the Yard Dawgz have selected four women who have shown great dedication and commitment toward the betterment of the Oklahoma City community.

Janet Peery, CEO of YWCA Oklahoma City. Mrs. Peery has built a reputation as a strong advocate for the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault against women. During her 12 years with the organization, she has played an active role in developing and implementing programs that focus on prevention. Mrs. Peery has served on several committees with the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault as well as the YWCA Southwest/Delta Region.

Mrs. Peery's is also a member of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City, and the Oklahoma County Task Force Against Family Violence.

Willa Johnson, Oklahoma County Commissioner. The development of Oklahoma City's economy has always been a top priority for Commissioner Johnson, as she has served on Oklahoma City's Finance, Economic Development and Capital Improvement Committee and is the Chair for the Neighborhood Conservation Committee. She was also a member of the MAPS Study committee and still maintains an active role with MAPS for Kids.

Commissioner Johnson is the Vice President of the ACOG Board, YMCA Achievers, the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and a member of the State Fair Board of Directors. She is also a Trustee of the OKC Zoo Trust, Oklahoma City Riverfront Redevelopment Authority, Oklahoma City Museum of Art and the Oklahoma Health Foundation.

Avis Scaramucci, Owner, Painted Door and Nonna's. In 1991, Mrs. Scaramucci opened the original Painted Door, off Western Avenue and several years later opened Nonna's Café. In 2005, she expanded her businesses into the heart of Oklahoma City's Bricktown district, adding Nonna's Euro-American Ristorante and Bar and another Painted Door location, as well as a Painted Door gift boutique in the Skirvin Hotel. Nonna's offers a restaurant, bakery, bar, gift gallery and meeting center to serve all its guests.

Mrs. Scaramucci is involved in many civic organizations, such as the Bricktown Association, BID Board, Easter Seals of Oklahoma, Leadership OKC, Myriad Gardens Foundation, the Oklahoma Arts Institute, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. She is also a member of the National and Oklahoma Restaurant Associations, James Beard Foundation, International Association of Culinary Professionals and American Institute of Wine and Food. Mrs. Scaramucci is active with numerous other organizations including the Allied Arts, American Red Cross, Children's Miracle Network, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and Special Olympics.

Christie Cook, Yard Dawgz General Manager. The start of the 2009 season marked Cook's sixth season with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz organization and her eighth year in professional sports. Ms. Cook was one of the first women to be promoted to the position of General Manager of a professional football franchise. While working with the Yard Dawgz organization, Ms. Cook's responsibilities have included creating and soliciting corporate partnership opportunities, developing and implementing all game day activities, coordinating media buys as well as acting as the front office liaison to the af2 league office.

Ms. Cook has a strong reputation as a leader and innovator in the field of game operations. She is often called to provide direction and assistance for other organizations. She has helped to serve as a liaison for Ford Center events such as the All College Basketball Tournament and NBA exhibition games. Ms. Cook spent the 2004-2005 hockey season as Producer of all Oklahoma City Blazers (CHL Hockey) home games. In 2006, Cook served as the Director of Game Day Operations for the University of Central Oklahoma Athletic Department (football).

Dedicated to community growth, Cook is currently serving her third term as a member of the Bricktown Association Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, the State Chamber of Commerce, and the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce.
