Yard Dawgz Host 6th Annual Blood Drive

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-5) and Oklahoma Blood Institute are hosting the team's 6th annual blood drive on Saturday, June 20, from 2-7 PM. The blood drive will be located in the Bruce Palmer Press Room at the Cox Convention Center. Saturday, June 20th is also Local Heroes Night as the Yard Dawgz take on the Corpus Christi Sharks (2-6). Kickoff is set for 7:05 PM.
"The work of the Oklahoma Blood Institute is greatly appreciated by all of those living in Oklahoma and north central Texas," commented Yard Dawgz General Manager Christie Cook. "It is a comfort to know that should the need arise, blood that is safe and of the highest quality is available because of the work of the Oklahoma Blood Institute."
Yard Dawgz dancers, mascots, and staff will be at the event to sign autographs and to donate blood. Each donor will receive a t-shirt and Member for Life points, as well as a free ticket to the Yard Dawgz home game that night against the Sharks.
"During the summer months, many Oklahomans who regularly donate are away on vacation or busy with other summer activities," said John Armitage, M.D., Oklahoma Blood Institute president and chief executive. "Thanks to the Yard Dawgz, Oklahoma can maintain a sufficient blood supply this summer. We are grateful to have the players, coaches and staff on its team."
Today, the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is the tenth largest non-profit regional blood center in America. It projects a need for 220,000 units of blood a year and provides transfusion blood products and clinical services to 125 medical facilities in Oklahoma and north central Texas. OBI's mission is "to provide the safest and highest quality blood, services and health programs to the patients and communities they serve." Working closely with blood donors and other volunteers, OBI stays prepared to meet the needs of every patient in the communities it serves.
