Yard Dawgz get defensive in victory

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz returned home and put on a defensive clinic as they defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings 52-17 in front of 7,394 fans at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. The Yard Dawgz began an interception fest in the third quarter as they picked off three Bossier passes and returned them for touchdowns.

ADT Defensive Player of the Game Rickie Davis led the Yard Dawgz defense. Davis picked had two interceptions, one for a touchdown, and had two more pass defenses on the night.

After a scoreless first quarter for both teams, the visiting Bossier- Shreveport Battlewings would get on the board first with a five yard touchdown catch by Reggie Perkins from Tim Hicks putting Bossier up 7- 0 at the 13:31 mark of the second quarter. The Yard Dawgz defense would then get the ball back after as James Landers blocked the Bossier field goal try and the Yard Dawgz offense would take it from there. Jarrail Jackson would score on a five-yard pass from Strickland tying the game at 7-7.

The Yard Dawgz would garner their first lead of the game when James Landers recovered a fumble in the end zone putting the Dawgz up 14-7. The Battlewings would get another touchdown from Perkins at the: 46 second mark of the second quarter to tie the game once again, but the Dawgz would quickly counter with an Al Hunt one-yard run giving Oklahoma City a 21-14 half-time lead.

The second half would prove to be all Oklahoma City and their defensive unit. Bossier would get a 45-yard field goal by Brian Hazelwood to start the half, but would be held scoreless over the final 25:31 of the second half.

The Dawgz would score the games final 31 points on their way to their first victory since April 16th.

Jarrail Jackson was voted Offensive Player of the game for his efforts on the night. Jackson would finish the game with 13 catches for 128 yards and one touchdown. B.J. Barre would earn Ironman of the Game for his play. Barre would finish the night with one catch for nine yards and defensively he would add 1.5 tackles and one interception, which he returned 38 yards for a touchdown.

The Yard Dawgz will travel to take on the Quad City Steamwheelers next Saturday, May 28th. The Steamwheelers defeated the Yard Dawgz 61-43 on April 23, 2005 in the Ford Center. The Yard Dawgz will return home on June 4th to face the Rio Grande Valley Dorados.
