
Yard Dawgz defend home turf in season opener

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz gave the home crowd something to cheer about with a 66-58 victory over the South Georgia Wildcats at the home opener on Saturday, April 4th. The victory gave the Dawgz their second win of the season and South Georgia their first loss.
After defensive stops on the first two series of the game, Yard Dawgz DB Travis Seaton intercepted a tipped pass which lead to a Matt Fields 21 yard touchdown catch from QB Robert Kent. Veteran WR Al Hunt rushed for a 2-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over the Wildcats. South Georgia responded on the next series with a touchdown of their own to make the score 8-7 to finish the first quarter.
The second quarter provided the fans more of the up tempo pace af2 is known for with the two squads trading touchdowns throughout the quarter. OKC began the second with a Freddie Rollins 1 yard touchdown run. The Wildcats answered with a rushing touchdown of their own to close the OKC lead to 1. The teams traded touchdowns again to make it a 22-21Yard Dawgz advantage, including a 47 yard TD catch from Hunt. OKC wideout Agim Shabaj scored the final touchdown of the half on a 15 yd pass from Kent. The half didn't end without another big play, as Yard Dawgz DB Fred Shaw came up with a fumbled snap with less than fifteen seconds left to solidify a Yard Dawgz lead at 29-21.
The third quarter was all Dawgz as the team extended their lead to 49-21. Kent scored the first Oklahoma City touchdown with a 1 yd run. Al Hunt followed up on his second TD of the night with an 8 yd pass to make the lead 42-21. The final touchdown came on a 7 yard touchdown grab by lineman Kevin Myers with 1:54 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Wildcats fought back in the final quarter but to no avail as the Yard Dawgz had already built an insurmountable lead. South Georgia managed to score six times including two touchdowns from former University of Oklahoma player Antwone Savage. Oklahoma City had the big defensive play of the night when DE Colin Bryant recovered a fumble in the endzone for a TD with :23 seconds left. The Wildcats scored their last two touchdowns with under :15 seconds, but came up short as the Yard Dawgz claimed victory with a 66-58 win.
