Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz are beefing up their roster by adding four new players. Sergio Gilliam, Larry Dibbles, Brandon Perkins, and Alvance Robinson are now part of the Yard Dawgz organization.
"It is not often that you are able to sign four players who will immediately impact your team, but these four players could be difference makers right away," said Yard Dawgz Head Coach Sparky McEwen.
Sergio Gilliam (DB, 6'3, 195) is joining the Yard Dawgz after spending the first part of the 2010 season with the Arizona Rattlers. Gilliam spent two years in the arenafootball2 and was named the af2 Rookie of the Year in 2008. In 2009, he compiled 16 pass break-ups and 2 fumble recoveries.
Brandon Perkins (FB/LB, 6'1, 240) from Houston, Texas, spent two years with the Los Angeles Avengers and attended training camp with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2009. In his two years with the Avengers he totaled 112 tackles, 5 sacks and 4 pass break-ups.
"Gilliam and Perkins are players that we feel could make a difference in the second half of our season, defensively. Both players have produced at high levels in the AFL and af2. This added experience to our defense will definitely provide us more confidence," said McEwen.
Another addition to the Yard Dawgz defense is Larry Dibbles (DL, 6'2, 295) from the University of Texas. In his four years at UT he accumulated 107 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 14 tackles for a loss, and a BCS National Championship.
"We are excited about Larry Dibbles, he comes from a big time program and had a very decorated past. Our hope is that he can quickly pick up the indoor defensive schemes and assist our defense as we push for a playoff run," said McEwen.
The Dawgz receiving core is growing with the addition of Alvance Robinson (WR, 5'9, 175). Last year, with South Georgia, he had 107 receptions for 1582 yards and 31 touchdowns. He comes to the Yard Dawgz after spending the first part of this season with the Milwaukee Iron, totaling 7 receptions for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns.
"This is a receiver that we have pursued for two years and Alvance had shown that he can be a difference maker as an offensive threat. Our hope is that he picks up our offensive scheme quickly, so that he can provide Tommy Grady another deep threat," said McEwen.
