Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz have been assigned five arena football veterans and one rookie in preparation for their 2009 season. Linemen Colin Bryant, Barrett Allen, Mondre Dickerson, and Chris Hollie join pass rush specialist Aaron Chavers and WR Carlton Brewster to help guide the Yard Dawgz to another successful season and their quest for the 2009 ArenaCup.
Five-year veteran Barrett Allen (6-4, 265) returns to the Yard Dawgz where he played 26 games over the 2006 and 2007 seasons. During that time, he gathered 25 total tackles and 14 sacks. In 2008, Allen played in 15 regular season games for the Talons, collecting 14.5 total tackles (7 solo), 5.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery. Prior to the af2, Allen played college football at Abilene Christian.
Mondre Dickerson (6-6, 350) also returns to the Yard Dawgz after joining Oklahoma City late in the 2008 season. During his time with the Yard Dawgz, he made 4.5 total tackles and forced one fumble. His biggest impact was solving the quarterback/center exchange problem that plagued the Yard Dawgz at the beginning of the season. Dickerson spent the start of the 2008 season in the AFL, playing for both the Philadelphia Soul and Columbus Destroyers. In his three year AFL career, Dickerson tallied 16 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles. Prior to playing professionally, Dickerson played for coaching legend Phillip Fulmer at the University of Tennessee.
Colin Bryant (6-5, 270) joins the Yard Dawgz after spending last season with the Quad City Steamwheelers, where in a three game span, he recorded 4.5 total tackles and 2 quarterback hits. Before playing with Quad City, Bryant spent two years with the Grand Rapids Rampage and one year with the Kansas City Brigade of the AFL. Bryant played collegiately at Minnesota State- Mankato.
"Colin Bryant is without a doubt the most physically gifted athlete in a Yard Dawgz uniform," said Coach Sparky McEwen. "His tremendous motor combined with his athleticism allows him to be termed a difference maker."
Chris Hollie (6-5, 350) rejoins the Yard Dawgz after spending time with the team in 2007. Hollie was part of an offensive line who protected quarterback Stan Hill, allowing him to set the current Yard Dawgz single season passing record. Last season Hollie played 13 games for the Bossier Shreveport Battlewings. Prior to the af2, Hollie played at Langston University.
Aaron Chavers (6-3, 273) comes back to the Yard Dawgz after a stint with rival Tulsa Talons last season. In 2008, Chavers recorded 27 total tackles (19 solo) including 7 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and a fumble. In 2006 and 2007, he played a total of 19 games with the Yard Dawgz. Chavers racked up 31 total tackles and 10 sacks for 64 yards. He played for the Mean Green at the University of North Texas before advancing to the professional level.
"We are extremely excited to have Aaron back with Yard Dawgz," commented Coach McEwen. "Adding him to the defense gives our team the ability to put instant pressure on opposing teams' quarterbacks."
Newcomer Carlton Brewster (5-11, 210) was assigned to the Yard Dawgz for his first season in arenafootball2. Brewster brings deep threat speed and great hands to a Yard Dawgz team already loaded at the wide receiver position. Before joining the Yard Dawgz, Brewster played in NFL Europa where he was named to the 2007 All-NFL Europa Team. The Ferris State University graduate also spent playing time with the San Diego Chargers, Green Bay Packers, and the Cleveland Browns.
"We are extremely excited to have added professional depth to our Yard Dawgz roster," said Coach McEwen. "This group of players has proven over the course of the last few years they are very valuable to a professional franchise."
Yard Dawgz season tickets are available now, starting as low as $56! The home opener is April 4, 2009 at the Cox Convention Center versus the South Georgia Wildcats. The Yard Dawgz Block Party will begin at 5:00 PM on Reno and kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM. For additional information, please call (405) 228-3294 or visit www.okcyarddawgz.com.
