Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and Head Coach Gary Reasons have added four players with af2 experience to their 2008 roster.
DB Nathan Williams (6'0, 190) was with the af2's Ft. Wayne Fusion last season and had 75 total tackles, 3 interceptions, and 16 pass breakups. Prior to playing in the af2, Williams was an outstanding defensive back for the University of Missouri Rolla. He led the team in interceptions for two seasons (2003-2004) and finished his senior year with 79 total tackles, four pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries.
After a quiet rookie year (2006), WR/DB Howard (6'2, 195) exploded onto the offensive scene in 2007. He was second on the team in receptions (80), receiving yards (1,106), and receiving TDs (22) and had 17 kick returns for 339 yards and 1 TD. He was awarded the Schutt Offensive Player of the Week award after his performance against the Boise Burn. During that contest, Howard had 12 catches for 210 yards, which included three receiving and one rushing touchdown. He also played in two games for the Tulsa Talons where he collected 11 receptions for 130 yards and 3 TDs.
Howard is a graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where he was Co-Receiver of the Year and earned first team All-Conference honors in 2005.
Shaw (6'2, 200), who played at the University of Central Oklahoma, has spent two seasons with the Yard Dawgz. He finished last season with 14 rushes for 26 yards and 6 TDs, tallied 31 receptions for 291 yards and 2 TDs, and had 11 kick returns for 249 yards. Shaw also had a strong presence on defensive, collecting 29 tackles, three pass breakups, and two interceptions.
Shaw finished 2006 with 25 solo tackles, fourth highest among Yard Dawgz defenders.
Tuesday, December 11th, the Dawgz held their first successful tryout for the 2008 campaign. Head Coach Gary Reasons offered a contract to kicker Ben Scott following his performance in the tryout. Scott (6'3, 200) played in one game for the af2's Bakersfield Blitz in 2007 and is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University where he was a 1st Team All-American punter, 3rd Team All-American kicker, and the Division III South Region Special Teams Player of the Year. Scott was also a three-time All-Centennial selection as a place-kicker and he was the first Johns Hopkins football player to be selected to play in the Aztec Bowl, which has featured a United State All-Star Team since 1997. He also played two seasons for the Miners baseball team and graduated with a degree in international studies.
