Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz have acquired one of the most explosive open field threats in arenafootball2 via trade with the Amarillo Dusters. The Yard Dawgz sent OL/DL Abraham Holloway and OL/DL Bryant McNeal to the Dusters in exchange for WR Craig Fulton Jr., who will bring depth and experience to a roster already loaded with talent at the wide receiver position. The Yard Dawgz were also assigned WR/DB Donta Bright, who spent much of the 2008 season in Oklahoma City.
"Coach McEwen and his staff are committed to our quest to not only win the Central Division and National Conference but to bring an ArenaCup Championship to Oklahoma City," said General Manager Christie Cook. "With the addition of Fulton, Oklahoma City can boast one of the most talented receiving corps in all of af2. Bright will be able to step in immediately to add some depth to our defense which has been banged up over the last few weeks. We have a big game this weekend against our in-state rivals and they will be asked to step in immediately and make some big plays."
Five-year veteran Craig Fulton Jr. (5'10, 180) comes to Oklahoma City after spending his entire career with the Amarillo Dusters. During that time, Fulton Jr. became the Dusters all-time leader in receptions (194), receiving yards (2,125), kickoff return yards (1,890) and combined return yards (1,976). Fulton Jr. makes an impact on both sides of the ball but is especially dangerous returning kicks. Last season, Fulton Jr. was the second-leading receiver for Amarillo with 68 catches for 632 yards and 10 TDs. He added 613 yards on kick returns and an interception. In 2007, he finished the season ranked #2 in the league on kick-off returns, averaging 23.8 yards per return and 2 touchdowns.
"Fulton is a difference making receiver," said Head Coach Sparky McEwen. "He definitely adds vertical speed to our offense which will make it tough for other teams to scheme against our receivers."
Donta Bright (6'1, 195) returns to Oklahoma City after playing for the Dawgz in 2008. Last season Bright collected 38 total tackles, six pass break ups, and four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. The speedy and athletic Bright also led the Yard Dawgz in return yardage, racking up over 1,200 yards in all-purpose returns with 4 TDs, including the season opening kickoff against the Arkansas Twisters. Prior to joining the Dawgz, Bright spent two seasons with the Amarillo Dusters, missing most of the 2007 season due to injury. In 2006,
Bright had 26 receptions for 276 yards and led the Dusters with 604 kick return yards. Defensively, he accounted for 37.5 total tackles and 4 pass breakups.
"We are very familiar with Bright," commented Coach McEwen. "He is going to add a tremendous amount of speed to our special teams and defense." it was definitely an upgrade to add him to our roster.
Both Fulton Jr. and Bright look to suit up this weekend when the Yard Dawgz travel to Tulsa to take on their division rivals, the Tulsa Talons. The matchup is set for Saturday, May 9th, at 7:00pm at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
The Yard Dawgz square off against Central Division archrival Tulsa Talons on Saturday, May 30th at the Cox Convention Center. Yard Dawgz Flex Packs are now on sale starting at just $50! Yard Dawgz single game tickets are on sale, starting at only $10! The Yard Dawgz Block Party begins every home game at 5:00 PM on Reno. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
