Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Norfolk, VA - In a double header, it is always nice when a starting pitcher can toss a complete game. Adam Warren did just this helping Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (30-27) to a 4-0 victory in game one over the Norfolk Tides (26-32) at Harbor Park. However, game two was not as kind to the Yankees as Joe Mahoney broke a 4-4 tie with a three-run blast in the top half of the 11th inning leading the Tides to a 7-4 win in game two.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game one on an RBI double to center off the bat of Brandon Laird. The Yankees added two more in top of the third on a two-run blast to right field by Corban Joseph. Ronnier Mustelier added an insurance run with an RBI single to center in the top of the fifth. This proved to be more than enough offense as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earned the 4-0 victory in game one.

Warren got the win in game one for the Yankees, tossing a complete game shutout (7 innings). The right-hander allowed just five hits, while striking out six en route to his third victory of the year. Steve Johnson suffered the loss for the Tides going just 2.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking two.

Jamie Hoffman gave Norfolk a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run over the left-centerfield wall. As quickly as the Tides gained the lead, they lost it. With one out in the bottom of the second Cust crushed a three-run home run to right field. Mustelier and Joseph also made the jog around the bases on Cust's 10th homer of the year and the Yankees lead was 3-2 after the first inning. Mustelier created some distance with a solo homer to left in the bottom of the sixth.

Norfolk tied it up in the top half of the seventh when L.J. Hoes grounded to Joseph at second who then tossed it to Yadil Mujica who then threw the ball away allowing two runs to come home. Xavier Avery was out at second giving the Yankees two outs in the inning with a runner on first. Cedeno got Miguel Tejada to line out to right ending the inning. Mahoney broke the 4-4 with a three-run shot off of Yankee reliever Manny Delcarmen in the top half of the 11th inning.

Ryota Igaroshi suffered the loss for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander left the game with two on and two out in the 11th and Delcarmen allowed the three-run homer off of Mahoney giving the Tides the advantage. Igaroshi was one of six Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pitchers in game two. Jon Link got the win for Norfolk, while Former Yankee J.C. Romero earned the save for the Tides as he pitched the bottom half of the 11th.

The Yankees and Tides play the series finale of a four game set at Harbor Park tomorrow at 12:15 PM. Dellin Betances (3-4, 5.30) takes the bump for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Brad Bergesen (2-3, 4.91) heads to the hill for Norfolk.
