Yankees Score Late, but can't Catch IronPigs
June 20, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
A late rally was not enough for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Saturday night as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs held on for a 5-4 victory.
The IronPigs took an early lead, scoring three runs off Yankees' starter Tim Redding in the bottom of the first inning.
After two hits and a walk loaded the bases, Andy Tracy lined a single to center to score two runs. Two batters later, Melvin Dorta drove in the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
The Yankees managed to cut the lead to one in the fourth inning after Jesus Montero hit a two-run homerun to center that scored Jorge Vazquez.
Montero is now batting .298 in June and has raised his season average to .248.
Lehigh Valley added two more runs in the fifth inning, ending Tim Redding's night. Redding went five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out one.
The Yankees staged a late comeback in the eighth inning.
P.J. Pilitere led off the inning with a solo homerun, his first of the year, to left field.
With one out in the inning, Greg Golson singled and then stole second as Reid Gorecki was called out on strikes.
After Colin Curtis worked a five-pitch walk, Eduardo Nunez singled home Golson and moved Curtis to third.
The threat ended, however, as Vazquez grounded out to first to end the inning.
The teams meet in the final game of the series Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
