
Yankees fall to Renegades

[Staten Island, NY] - The Staten Island Yankees returned home to drop a 5-2 decision to the Hudson Valley Renegades (19-15), ending the game just before the skies opened up.
The Renegades broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth by plating three runs. Matt Rico singled to start the inning and was followed by a single by Josh Kendrick. Both runners scored on a double by Gabriel Martinez for the 4-2 lead. Two outs later, Jason St. Clair singled in Martinez with the final run.
The Yankees (11-22) attempted a rally in the ninth, as Dave Slevin drew a one-out walk. However, he was erased when Melky Cabrera hit into a double play to end the game.
Hudson Valley struck first win a run in the third when Aneudi Cuevas singled to lead off the inning and scored on an error by Alexander Santa on St. Clair's double.
The Yankees knotted the score at one in the fifth when Carlos Rosario tripled and scored on a ground out by Melky Cabrera.
Each team posted a run in the seventh inning. The Yankees threatened in the bottom of the eighth, leaving runners at the corners stranded.
TJ Beam followed up a great performance in Brooklyn with another outstanding effort. In five innings of work, the Yankee hurler allowed one unearned run on three hits, walking one and striking out five. Josh Smith got the loss, his first of the season.
The Staten Island Yankees will travel to Hudson Valley to conclude the series on Tuesday. They will return home on Wednesday to face the hot-hitting Auburn Doubledays at 7:15 p.m.
