Pulaski River Turtles News Release
PULASKI, Virginia - Despite the Yankees loss on Monday night, two players continued to shine as Pulaski (11-13) dropped the third game of the series 6-2 to Johnson City (13-10). Blake Rutherford, the New York Yankees first-round draft pick in June, hit his first home run for Pulaski, but it was not enough to get the sweep over Johnson City.
The Cardinals did not waste any time getting runs on the board as the score as Allen Cordoba singled in the first inning before being driven in on an RBI double by Yariel Gonzalez.
Gonzalez continued his night with a solo home run in the third inning. He was followed by Joshua Lopez reaching base on a walk and a single to right field by Bryce Denton. A balk by Pulaski starter Julian Aybar advanced both runners before a double by Luis Bandes drove them both home.
The Cardinals added two more runs in the top of the fifth as Denton reached base on a walk before being crossing the plate thanks to a home run by Bandes.
Rutherford and Dermis Garcia were the only offense for Pulaski in Monday night's matchup, each with a home run. Garcia's home run was his ninth of the season.
Johnson City starter Ian Oxnevard (3-1) picked up the win, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up six hits and two runs. Aybar (0-1) got the loss for Pulaski while tossing three innings and giving up five hits and four runs.
The Yankees will head to Danville for a three game series with the Braves before returning home for a series against Kingsport. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
