Florence Y'alls News Release

CRESTWOOD, IL - Down by three runs after six innings, the Florence Y'alls continued their recent trend of scoring late in the game with five combined runs in seventh and eighth innings to earn a 5-3 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts Saturday night at Ozinga Field.

Most of the scoring the Y'alls did this week came late in the game. Wednesday afternoon, Florence scored seven of its 11 runs in the seventh inning. In Thursday's loss, Florence scored its only two runs in the seventh inning. Last night, Florence scored four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to pull away for the win.

Tonight, Florence began the seventh inning with a Brennan Price double followed by a walk and a single to load the bases with nobody out against Windy City starter Garrett Christman. The righty struck out Casey Combs before departing in favor of Justin Miller. Ian Bibiloni grounded into a fielder's choice which scored a run. Still with two runners on base, Ray Zuberer III scored both with a double to right field to knot the game at 3-3.

After a scoreless inning for Darwin Ramos to keep Windy City quiet, Joe Lytle came to the plate with two outs and runners on first and second. A fly ball to left continued to carry all the way to the wall, hit the top of the wall, resulted in a two-run triple, and gave the Y'alls the 5-3 lead. Joe Dougherty struck out two in the ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season.

The win is Florence's sixth in seven games and wraps up a 4-1 road trip. The Y'alls have their first series "sweep" of the year and have won three consecutive series. Windy City, meanwhile, has lost the past four series and is 3-9 over the past 12 games. The ThunderBolts did not score tonight after a three-run third inning.

Lytle's heroics tonight came as part of a 2-4 game to extend his hitting streak to six games. He went 7-13 on the road swing and has three home runs and now 13 RBI during his hitting streak.

Grant Hockin for Florence made his first start since 2018 when he was a member of the Cleveland organization as a former second round draft pick. Hockin lasted three innings and gave up three runs (two earned). He struck out the side in the second inning and fanned five total. Christman takes a tough no-decision after six 1/3 innings, two runs, and seven strikeouts; Miller gets hit with the loss.

The Y'alls have Sunday and Monday off before starting a six-game homestand Tuesday night.
