Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, January 8, 2008 - Behind Chaz McCrommon's 35 points, the Pittsburgh Xplosion defeated the Great Falls Explorers, 128-101, tonight at Mellon Arena. The win is Pittsburgh's fourth in a row, a season high.
Pittsburgh led by as many as 16 in the first half, paced by Lawrence Baker's 13 points.
"Lawrence was incredible in the first half," head coach Carlos Knox said. "He's really playing an important role for us this season."
Great Falls rallied to tie the game at 70 midway through the third quarter on a Maurice Carter jumper. The Xplosion took a six point lead into the fourth, but Great Falls did win the third quarter point.
The Xplosion pulled away in the fourth, increasing their lead throughout the final period as Great Falls missed their first ten shots of the quarter. The 27-point margin of victory was the Xplosion's largest lead of the night.
Shaun Fountain finished the game with 23 points and 16 assists, tying the league-high for the season. Pittsburgh took six of the seven quarter points.
Pittsburgh hits the halfway mark of the season at 13-11 and on that four-game win streak. The Xplosion now hit the road for ten games, starting Friday night in Rio Grande Valley.
"We just want to take it one game at a time," Knox said of the trip. "With our confidence level right now, I really think we can make some noise."
