Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, PA - A slow start doesn't always guarantee defeat, but it certainly didn't do the Minot Skyrockets any favors Saturday night against the Xplosion.

Pittsburgh held the Skyrockets to seven points in the opening period, which set the team record for fewest points allowed in a quarter.

The final result was a 91-82 Xplosion victory. Albert White led the way with 23 points.

"Today was all about pride," Xplosion head coach Carlos Knox said. "We wanted to establish that we are a good team and that teams aren't going to just run us over."

Minot fought back to cut the Xplosion's double digit lead to two in the second, but Pittsburgh pulled back ahead by eight heading into the intermission. The Skyrockets did win the second quarter point, 29-26, but trailed on the big board, 44-36.

The Xplosion held the Skyrockets at arm's length throughout the contest, never relinquishing their lead. Pittsburgh took five of the seven quarter points after getting just a total of 1.5 in the last two games against Minot.

"Minot is a good team and a well-coached team," Knox said. "It's definitely a good feeling to be able to beat them and defend our home court."

Pittsburgh returns to Mellon Arena Monday night to host Albany at 7:05. For more information, visit www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
