Xplosion To Host Youth Dunk Contest On May 25

PITTSBURGH, May 14, 2007 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion Professional Basketball Team will host the first annual "Xplosion Youth Dunk Contest" on Friday, May 25 at the Monroeville Expo Mart. The contest, which is open to elementary and middle school students in grades three through eight, will be held in conjunction with the opening day of The Pittsburgh Sports & Fitness Festival.

If you love basketball and are a high-flyer come out and show your skills. Sign up today, registration is free, but space is limited. The event will feature lower rims for shorter dunkers. Preliminary practice dunks will be held from 5:30- 6:30 PM. Local celebrities, including area-basketball stars and Steelers, will judge the preliminary and final rounds which will begin at 7:00 PM. All participants will receive a free weekend pass to the Sports and Fitness Festival.

In addition to the slam dunk competition, area youth can also capture prizes in other fitness related contests, including push-ups, sit-ups, jump rope, chin-ups, rock wall, and an obstacle course.

The Pittsburgh Sports & Fitness Festival runs Memorial Day Weekend, May 25 and 26. The event, which features more than 15 major health, fitness and mixed martial arts championships, as well as over 100 exhibits, helps to bring awareness to various health related concerns and the importance of individuals maintaining healthy and active lifestyles in Western Pennsylvania. General admission tickets will be available at the door for $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday.
