Xplosion take down Indiana for second straight win

ANDERSON, IN , March 9, 2007 - Rob Griffin scored a game-high 28 points, including a key three-point basket in the final minute, to pace six players in double figures and lead Pittsburgh (8-33) to a 109-102 victory over Indiana (20-21) in Continental Basketball Association action at the WigWam. Lewis Monroe added 21 points, eight rebounds and eight assists and helped the Xplosion ice the game with four free throws in the final 10 seconds.

The Xplosion jumped out to a quick start and won the opening quarter, 31-25. The two clubs then played to a 22-22 draw in the second quarter, giving the Black and Gold a 53-47 lead at intermission.

It remained a six point game, with Pittsburgh on top 84-78, after the teams halved the third period, 31-31. The Alley Cats briefly took a one-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Pittsburgh used a short spurt to recapture the lead.

The Xplosion collected the final quarter point and posted the final margin of victory when Monroe hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to provide the Black and Gold with a 25-24 win in the quarter and a 109-102 margin for the game.

Griffin tallied 28 points, shootign 9-21 from the floor, and added a season-high nine assists. Monroe added 21 points and Corey Minnifield chipped in with 21 as well to pace the Xplosion, who dressed just seven players.

Indiana was led by Josh Murray, who briefly played in Pittsburgh in 2005-06, with 28 points. Shaun Fountain added 21.

The victory snapped an 12-game road losing streak for the Xplosion, the club's last victory away from home came at Minot on January 10, and also marked the first time all season the club had put together back-to-back wins. The fading Alley Cats dropped their fifth consecutive decision.

Free throws played a key role, as Pittsburgh shot 28-34. Indiana finished 15-25 at the stripe.
