Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, December 6, 2007 - Despite Antonio Graves' 21 points, the Pittsburgh Xplosion dropped Thursday night's game to the Minot Skyrockets, 97-92, at Mellon Arena.
The Xplosion started very strong and won the first quarter, 35-22, led by Graves' 13 points. But the Skyrockets chipped away and won the final three quarters. They took the lead for good on Kevin Rice's three-pointer with 1:44 to play. Minot took six quarter points after taking 6.5 from the Xplosion Wednesday.
Outside circumstances dictated the way the Xplosion and Skyrockets approached Thursday's game. Bad weather led to shortened benches for both teams.
The teams played Wednesday in Minot, and delayed flights in Minot and Chicago forced both teams to leave players in the Windy City for a later flight. Minot had just five players, Pittsburgh had six.
The other players arrived at the beginning of the fourth quarter, and most saw action immediately to relieve their winded teammates. Marshall Phillips scored seven points off the bench for Minot.
Xplosion head coach Carlos Knox did not want to offer any excuses for the loss.
"We had a mental lapse in the second and third quarters," Knox said. "I put this loss on my shoulders and I'll take the blame."
The Xplosion host Minot Saturday at 7:05 at Mellon Arena. For more information, visit www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
