Xplosion fall at Butte, 100-93

BUTTE, MT, January 31, 2007 - Shawn Hawkins led six Pittsburgh Xplosion (2-24) players in double figures with 24 points, but Butte used a 16-3 second quarter spurt to seize command of the game and held on for the 100-93 victory in Continental Basketball Association action at the Butte Civic Center.

The Xplosion held the lead briefly in the opening quarter, but the game was tied after the opening 12 minutes of play, 23-23. The Daredevils then took control of the contest with a surge midway through the second period. With Pittsburgh up a pair, 25-23, Butte went on a 16-3 run over a span of 6:45 during the middle of the period to assume a lead it would not relinquish. Butte won the quarter 24-15 and led at intermission, 47-38.

The Black and Gold displayed sings of life in the second half, winning the third quarter, 29-27. Butte, however, would extend its advantage to as many as 16 points in the final quarter and the teams would halve the final frame, 26-26.

Butte earned five of seven quarter points with the win.

Dajuan Tate added 13 points for Pittsburgh. Greg Jenkins and Lewis Monroe added 12 points apiece. Kevin Pittsnogle was limited to just eight points.

Anthony RIchardson led Butte with 27 points.

The defeat was the ninth straight for the Xplosion, while the Daredevils notched their fifth consecutive victory.

The Xplosion remain in Montana and head across the state for the team's next two games when it faces the Great Falls Explorers on Friday and Saturday, February 2 and 3.
