Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, December 17, 2007 - Led by John DeGroat's 29 points and 10 rebounds, the Pittsburgh Xplosion defeated an undermanned Oklahoma Cavalry squad, 117-97, tonight at Mellon Arena.

"This win puts us back on track," head coach Carlos Knox said. "We just really wanted to make a statement tonight, and our guys stepped up."

The Cavalry (6-4) had massive roster turnover after the firing of head coach Micheal Ray Richardson over the weekend, and brought only six players to Pittsburgh. The Xplosion took full advantage early, led by DeGroat's 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting in the first half.

Pittsburgh (7-7) took both quarter points in the first half, winning the first quarter, 25-23. In the second, Pittsburgh used a 9-0 run late in the quarter to win it, 31-25, and took a 56-48 lead into the break.

Oklahoma made a run early in the fourth quarter, cutting the Xplosion lead to as little as five. Randy Gill fueled the run with seven points in the first three minutes of the quarter. Gill led the Cavalry with 20 points.

"When they went on their run, a lot of the problems we had started with poor decisions on the offensive end," Knox said.

The Xplosion quickly recovered their double-digit lead and held the Cavalry at arm's length throughout the rest of the final quarter.

Robert Morris graduate Chaz McCrommon finished with 22 points, and Carl Krauser chipped in with eight assists.

The Xplosion took all seven quarter points from the Cavalry, marking Pittsburgh's second sweep of the season. The teams will meet again Wednesday at Mellon Arena, with tip set for 7:05. For ticket information, visit the team's official Web site at www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
