November 24, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, PA - Led by Antonio Graves' 26 points, the Pittsburgh Xplosion defeated the Rio Grande Valley Silverados, 102-81, tonight at the Petersen Events Center. The 81 points allowed by the Xplosion set a team record, beating the previous best of 88 against Albany January 26.
Rio Grande Valley came into tonight's action as the only CBA team without a victory, and the Silverados did not do much to change that statistic. They never led, and struggled throughout on both ends of the floor.
It's never a good sign when the high temperature on a chilly Pittsburgh day in late November dwarfs a basketball's team shooting percentage. Unfortunately for Rio Grande Valley, the â39' on the thermometer would have been a vast improvement in the first half. The Silverados shot a frigid 28.2 percent in the opening 24 minutes.
Rio Grande Valley came into the game shooting nearly 50 percent from the field, but the Silverados did not make their first field goal until the 7:59 mark of the opening period. The Xplosion cruised to an easy win of the first quarter point, 28-14, capped by an impressive Odell Bradley behind-the-head pass to Albert White on a fast break.
The second quarter saw the Xplosion maintain the lead, and expand it to as many as 18 on an Antonio Graves three-pointer with 2:25 left in the half. Graves had 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The Xplosion took the second quarter point and led at the half, 51-34.
The Xplosion's largest lead of the night came at 86-54 with 9:48 to play in the fourth quarter on a Carl Krauser basket. Rio Grande Valley did manage to salvage the fourth quarter point and avoid the sweep.
The Xplosion host the Silverados again tomorrow night at 7:05 at the Petersen Events Center. For more information, visit the team's Web site at www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
