Xplorers open training camp Monday at the Pyramid

SOUTHAVEN --- The defending af2 ArenaCup Champion Memphis Xplorers begin preparation for the upcoming season this Monday, March 13 with the opening of training camp at the Pyramid in Memphis. The Xplorers will conduct the first two weeks of camp at the Pyramid for the second consecutive season. Practices will shift to the team's usual home, the DeSoto Civic Center, on March 27. The team opens the season on Saturday, April 1 at Huntsville, AL against the Tennessee Valley Vipers at 7:30.
"It's exciting that we are less than a week away," Head Coach Danton Barto said. "We think that we have put together another impressive team that we hope will challenge for another ArenaCup. On Monday, we get to see those guys on the field together for the first time."
Barto is planning to open camp with 35 players. That number needs be down to 30 by Thursday, March 16 with the final roster cut-down to 19 active players and three practice squad players being Monday, March 27.
Training camp practices will be open to fans and the media. There will be time before and after practice sessions for media interviews.
The first week will consist of two-a-day workouts. The team will have practice from 8:50 to 11 in the morning and then from 5:30 to 7 in the evening the first three days. Wednesday's evening session will consist of a full scrimmage. On Thursday, March 16, a film session will take the place of the morning practice with the evening session running again from 5:30 to 7.
