Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 finished the regular season voted number one in the af2 Coaches Poll. Memphis' reason for their success is credited to having the top offense and top defense in the league.

Memphis (13-3) scored 55.8 points per game this season, which tied them with the Amarillo Dusters for the most points scored. The Xplorers scored a total of 892 points in 2005; up from the 772 points they scored in 2004. Offensive Specialist, Kevin Prentiss, who scored a total of 264 points, has provided the majority of the Xplorers scoring. Prentiss scored six more points than he did in 2004, breaking his own franchise record. He ended fourth overall in scoring in the league.

The Xplorers defense limited opponents to 37.6 points per game, allowing a total of 601 points. That total is down from 2004 when Xplorers' opponents scored 732 points. Memphis was top-ranked in multiple defensive categories, including turnover margin (+29), interceptions (31), sacks (36), and red zone defense (69.2%). Leading the way for the Xplorers secondary is Dahnel Singfield, who recorded 12 interceptions, and 62 passes defended. Khreem Smith has been a quarterback's nightmare with 16 sacks, and six forced fumbles.

With the 16 game regular season in the books, the Xplorers are now setting their sights on the 2005 ArenaCup Championship. Memphis will rest during the opening round of the playoffs before hosting their first home playoff game in franchise history. That game is scheduled for Friday, August 12th at 7:30pm.

The Xplorers are 2005 Mid West Division Champions. Playoff tickets for the 12th are on sale now for as little as $9.
