Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 have been assigned WR/LB Sále Key, along with WR/DB Elgin Hicks by the league office.

Key played collegiate football for the Bengals at Idaho State University. He was a three-time member of the All-Big Sky team. As a junior, Key caught 58 passes for 882 yards and eight touchdowns. He average 73.5 yards per game during that season. As a senior, Key had 67 catches, 942 yards, and nine touchdowns. He increased his average yards per game to 85.6 yards.

Key was in training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League earlier in the summer, before being released by the organization.

Hicks was assigned to Memphis prior to the start of the 2005 af2 season. He was in training camp with the Xplorers before the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League picked him up. Hicks was a Bull at the University of South Florida, where he set the USF single season record with seven touchdown receptions.

Hicks spent part of last season on the practice roster of the Indianapolis Colts after signing with the NFL team as a free agent. He did not see any game action.

"Both of these guys will be valuable additions to the team, and we expect them to make an immediate impact," said Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto. "We have been anxious for Elgin to return ever since he was signed by Winnipeg, and Sále is the big-bodied type of receiver that can dominate this league."

Key and Hicks will both play for Memphis this weekend against the Tulsa Talons. The Xplorers are 10-2 on the season and in first place in the Mid West Division of the National Conference. Game time this Saturday against the Talons is scheduled for 7:00pm. Single game tickets start as low as $7 and can be purchased by calling 662-342-1755, visiting the DeSoto Civic Center box office, or by logging onto www.TicketMaster.com today.
