Saskatoon Blades News Release

WINDSOR, CO - Wyatt McLeod's hockey career is soaring to new heights.

Less than two weeks after playing the final WHL game of his career, the former Saskatoon Blades defender has signed an AHL amateur tryout agreement with the Colorado Eagles - the AHL affiliate to the Colorado Avalanche.

"First off, none of this would be possible without the support and guidance from my family and coaches over the years, especially from the Saskatoon Blades and Edmonton Oil Kings," said McLeod. "I am very thankful for the opportunity Colorado is giving me and I just want to go out and do my absolute best."

This comes just six days after the Dawson Creek, BC product inked his name to an amateur tryout with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies, where he collected two penalty minutes and a +2 rating in three games.

The 6-foot-3, 201-pound defenceman capped an impressive 228-game WHL career at the end of April, playing his fifth season with the Saskatoon Blades. Dressing in all 24 games, McLeod tallied 15 points (2G-13A) and 19 penalty minutes, finishing second in team defensive scoring.

"I've enjoyed the experience thus far and I am looking forward to what's ahead," added McLeod.

Prior to his final year with the Blades, the 21-year-old spent four seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings, wearing an 'A' as an alternate captain for two campaigns. Over his five-year career, McLeod piled up 69 points (12G-57A) along with 165 penalty minutes to compliment a +36 rating.

The Eagles next game is set for Wednesday night when they take on the San Diego Gulls at 7:05pm MT.
