Rockford RiverHawks News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Kyle Wright brightened the Rockford RiverHawks' dimming hope for a Northern League playoff berth by ending the Winnipeg Goldeyes' chance for postseason play.

Wright pitched a four-hitter and shut out the Goldeyes, 7-0, at Road Ranger Stadium.

Both teams immediately ahead of Rockford in the standings - third-place Joliet and fourth-place Gary - won on Tuesday. Joliet beat visiting Fargo, 4-1. Gary beat visiting Schaumburg, 8-2. Fifth-place Rockford remains four games behind the RailCats for the last playoff spot with six to play. Sixth-place Winnipeg was mathematically eliminated.

Rich Austin hit his eighth home run, in front of 2,289.

Wright (9-3) struck out three without a walk and threw 76 of his 98 pitches for strikes. He twice retired 11 in a row and faced just 29 batters, two more than the minimum. Winnipeg put one runner in scoring position.

Rockford scored three times off Winnipeg starter Jason Mackintosh in the fourth inning. Victor Diaz hit a sacrifice fly and Austin hit a two-run homer to left field. Jake Eigsti, who was 3-for-3, singled in a fourth-inning run. Mackintosh (1-6) was out of the game a batter later. Rockford added two unearned runs in the sixth inning and an unearned run in the seventh.

Wright, with his 19th win in two years with the RiverHawks, passed Josh Tomsu for third place on the all-time list. He tied Jason Shelley for first in the team's career record book with his ninth complete game.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. It's Rock River Valley Blood Center "Straight From the Heart" Wednesday. Blood donors receive free ticket vouchers from the RRVBC. It's also Ticket Redemption Night. Visit the team site or call the box office for details.
