Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - Another masterful starting performance and timely hitting brought the Keys another win, taking the opening series from the Salem Red Sox by winning the rubber match 5-0.

2011 third-round draft pick Mike Wright, making his anticipated Advanced-A debut, was flawless. Not allowing a run to cross the plate, Wright retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced. Giving up three hits, no walks, and recording three strikeouts through six innings, Wright was credited with the win.

Four of the five hits Wright allowed came to the first seven batters he faced. After settling down, Wright then only gave up one hit in his next four innings.

For two straight starts, the Keys' starting pitching has not allowed an earned run.

Relief pitchers Jason Gurka and Chris Petrini combined to complete the shutout for the Keys, going three innings and giving up just one hit.

The Keys move to 2-1 on the year while Salem slips to 1-2.

The Keys, clinging tightly to a 2-0 lead going into the seventh inning, pulled away when third baseman Ty Kelly launched a pitch over the left-field wall for a two-run homerun to give the Keys some breathing room and go up 4-0.

Two batters later, Bobby Stevens put one over the wall, a solo shot that gave the Keys a 5-0 advantage. In Stevens' two games played, he's hit three home runs and is 4-7 with six RBI's.

The Keys wasted no time getting on the board as Trent Mummey led the game off with a double. Ronnie Welty then hit him home with his fourth RBI on the young year.

Up 1-0, the Keys grabbed an insurance run in the fifth inning when Stevens singled home Kelly.

Their big three-run seventh inning, combined with their dominant pitching performance, allowed the Keys to grab their second win of the season and to take the series from the Red Sox.

The Keys are back in action Tuesday at Harry Grove Stadium against the Winston-Salem Dash.
