BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Barons dropped a heartbreaking game to Biloxi Tuesday night as the Shuckers topped Birmingham 4-3. Left fielder Kyle Wren singled home the game-winning run in the top of the ninth to lead Biloxi to its first win of the five-game set, tying the series 1-1.

Starter Mark Blackmar (0-3, 4.24 ERA) allowed three runs on just three hits, while two were unearned. He got off the hook in the eighth when the Barons out up a three-spot to tie the contest, but reliever Raul Fernandez (3-5, 5.65 ERA) gave up the game-winning run in the ninth and was given the loss. Despite a blown save, Shucker reliever Austin Ross (3-1, 1.55 ERA) picked up the win.

Biloxi struck first with a run in the fourth. Taylor Green lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Nick Ramirez from third, and they went ahead 2-0 in the fifth on a Wren single to second. Wren struck again in the seventh to put the Shuckers up 3-0 with a sacrifice bunt to Barons reliever Sean Hagan to score Nathan Orf.

Birmingham mounted a comeback in the eighth as third baseman Jeremy Farrell roped a single to left to plate catcher Adrian Nieto. Newly-added Barons Keenyn Walker singled on a grounder to short to score Joey DeMichele, and the inning's third run crossed courtesy a bases-loaded walk to Chris Curley.

Despite the late-inning rally, Biloxi was able to push its fourth run of the game across in the ninth to go ahead by one. With runners at first and third, Wren laced his second hit of the evening to left to score Orf. Birmingham showed signs of life with a leadoff single from Danny Hayes to begin the ninth, but the first baseman was stranded at first.

Biloxi's Wren ended the night 2-for-4 with three RBI, and the only Baron to collect more than one hit was Hayes, going 2-for-4. Curley and Farrell were credited with RBI.

The two teams are back in action Wednesday at 11 a.m. for the third game of the series. Birmingham right-hander Tony Bucciferro (0-2, 6.94 ERA) takes on Shuckers righty Brooks Hall (4-3, 3.89 ERA) in the matinee contest. It is a AAA Wednesday, presented by AAA of Alabama. AAA members who present their membership cards will receive a $2 discount on their ticket purchase.
