Jackson Generals News Release

Pearl, Miss. - After two days without a game, Jackson opened up a six-game series against the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park with a 5-2 win thanks to three runs over the game's final two innings. Jack Reinheimer and Jabari Blash had consecutive run-scoring hits with two outs in the eighth to give the Generals their first lead of Monday's contest.

The game was tied at two heading into the eighth inning when the Generals rallied for a pair of runs. Ian Miller, who reached base four times in just his second Double-A start, walked and stole second against Francisco Rondon (2-1, 4.67) to put a man in scoring position. Jack Reinheimer got Miller home with a two-out, two-strike double to left-center field to make it 3-2. Jabari Blash followed with a base hit to left field to score Reinheimer, making it 4-2.

Reinheimer finished the day 3-for-5, giving him a team-best 22 multi-hit games. It was the third three-hit game of the season for Reinheimer, who is in his first season at Double-A after playing at just 20 games at the High-A level last season. As a team, the Generals were 4-for-9 with men in scoring position on Monday night.

Jackson (21-27) added another run on a wild pitch from Mark Lamm in the ninth to go up 5-2. Richard Vargas (S, 1) worked a perfect ninth to earn the five-out save, his first of the season. Andrew Kittredge (1-0, 3.68), Jordan Shipers and Vargas combined to give up just three hits while striking out five in five scoreless innings out of the bullpen in the win.

Mississippi (26-22) struck first, scoring a run on Edwin Diaz in the first inning. Diaz only allowed one hit, but needed 34 pitches to get out of the inning. The 21-year-old righty struck out two in a perfect second inning before running into more trouble in the third. The Braves got three-straight singles in the frame, with KD Kang's knock plating Mississippi's second run to make it 2-1. Diaz gave up two runs on five hits over four innings while striking out four.

The Generals came back from a pair of one-run deficits in the contest to take the series opener. Jackson plated a run on four hits in the third inning, with Marcus Littlewood's sac fly plating Jordy Lara to knot the game up at one. The Generals left the bases loaded against Mississippi's Greg Ross in that inning. Ross gave up just two runs on eight hits over six innings.

It was a two-out rally that brought Jackson back from a 2-1 deficit in the fifth. With the bases empty, Ian Miller tripled to right-center and Tyler Smith followed with an RBI single tie the game 2-2. Miller went 2-for-3 with two walks, giving him a pair of two-hit games in as many starts since moving up from Bakersfield.

The six-game set continues with a doubleheader on Tuesday evening, as the teams make up a rainout on April 19 in Jackson. Scott DeCecco (1-2, 5.62) and Moises Hernandez are scheduled to start the two games for the Generals against a pair of righties in Victor Mateo (1-2. 3.15) and Jason Hursh (1-3, 5.91). The start will be Hernandez's 141st career appearance with Jackson, setting a new franchise record. First pitch from Trustmark Park in game one is set for 5:00 pm CT with the second game to follow shortly afterwards. Coverage will begin on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) with the Jackson Generals Pregame Show starting at 4:45 pm CT.
