SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Wranglers got a win on their first road trip of the 2024 season, beating the San Antonio Gunslingers by a score of 57-50.

The Wranglers started this contest on defense inside Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. After surrendering a touchdown on the first drive of the game, the Wranglers offense responded with a drive capped off by a rushing touchdown from quarterback Joshua Jones. The first quarter ended with the Gunslingers in possession of the football, and the games score tied at seven apiece.

The Wranglers defense opened the second quarter with a stop on fourth and goal, causing the Gunslingers to turn the ball over on downs. The Wranglers coughed the ball back up to the Gunslingers in just a few plays. The Gunslingers recovered a Wranglers fumble in the end zone for a San Antonio touchdown. The Wranglers were facing an early seven-point deficit. This deficit did not last long, as the Wranglers scored in three plays on their following possession. Jones spun out of a Gunslingers defender defand threw a 29-yard touchdown to wide receiver John Maldonado to tie the game at 14 apiece.

The Wranglers defense gained more of an edge on the next drive, with a fumble recovery from defensive end Wallace Cowins. The Wranglers offense scored again in just three plays, with another connection between Jones and Maldonado. The Wranglers jumped out to a 20-14 lead on the Gunslingers, over midway through the second quarter. The Gunslingers and Wranglers traded one touchdown apiece on the next two drives, with Wranglers wide receiver David Elder getting a rushing score. Wranglers defensive back Travion Banks intercepted a pass on the ensuing possession, giving the Wranglers the ball back with 49 seconds remaining in the first half. Jones located wide receiver Arsiah McCorker, (RZ) open in the end zone, and the Wranglers extended their lead before the half.

The Wranglers entered the locker room at halftime holding a 35-21 lead on the Gunslingers.

The Wranglers opened the first half on offense and scored quickly with another rushing touchdown from Jones. Suddenly, the Wranglers were up by 20 points early in the third quarter. On the next drive, the Wranglers defense forced another turnover on downs. Wranglers wide receiver Justin Manyweather scored a rushing touchdown, extending the Wranglers lead to 28 points. The Wranglers were rolling, in front of the Gunslingers by a score of 51-23. The Gunslingers scored a touchdown on their next two possession, with the Wranglers turning the ball over on downs in between San Antonio's scores. One Gunslingers touchdown fell in the third quarter, while the other was early in the fourth. Wranglers quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole entered the game on that drive just before the third quarter ended. The Wranglers held a 51-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Wranglers offense got the ball back, after the San Antonio touchdown, still holding 51-37 lead. RZ McCorker got his second touchdown of the game, this time taking a handoff into the end zone for the Wranglers. The Wranglers jumped back out to a 20-point lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the Western Conference showdown. The Wranglers defense gave up a score bringing their lead back down to 14. The Wranglers got a field goal blocked with just eight seconds remaining in the game. The Gunslingers scored a touchdown as time expired, bringing the game's score to 57-50 in favor of the Wranglers.

The Wranglers got an important win on the road, defeating the Gunslingers by a score of 57-50. After holding a 28-point lead, the Wranglers allowed San Antonio to crawl back in the contest a bit too much towards the end. Despite the score appearing closer, the Wranglers dominated for a major part of this contest. Jones threw three touchdowns and ran for three, while the defense forced two turnovers. RZ McCorker continues to add to his touchdown resume in the Indoor Football league, scoring two which brings his total to eight on the season. Elder looked impressive being utilized in the running game, and the Wranglers will continue to improve as the season continues.

The Wranglers are entering a bye week, and will be well rested before returning home to Clarion Pointe Field inside the Findlay Toyota Center to take on the Duke City Gladiators on April 20th.
