Wranglers Make Shocking Comeback to Defeat Showtime

WACO, Texas-Guard Reggie Griffin scored 32 points to lead the Wranglers to a 123 to 119 victory over Dallas' Showtime Saturday.

The Wranglers maintained a small lead the first quarter before going into half time leading 65-58. Showtime narrowed the lead at the end of the third quarter with the Wranglers leading only 94-90. Showtime made a comeback to gain the lead in the beginning of the fourth quarter 110-104. Forward David Stevens made two free throws to give the Wranglers back the lead boosting the score to 115-113. The Wranglers held the lead to secure their fifth victory of the season defeating Showtime 123 to 119.

"I think we played good when it came to us playing a better team," Griffin said. "We came together. We cut down the turnovers and rebounded the ball and played good team defense."

Four other Wranglers had double figures with Mario Kinsey adding 28, David Stevens 15, Chris Johnson 13 and Vincent Bridgewater 11.

"This was a real big win for us," Coach Toni Oppliger said. "It was the best team we've played so far. We were under pressure down till the end, but we really came through with it. I'm happy for the guys."

The Wranglers have three additional preseason games before they compete against other ABA teams. Their season opener will be Nov. 4 against Arkansas Aeros in Springdale, Ark. The Wrangler's first regular season home game is scheduled for Nov. 11 against Monterrey, Mexico at Reicher Catholic High School.

The Waco Wrangler's return to action Thursday night, Oct. 26, at 7:00 p.m. when they face Austin Capitol Sound at the Murray Watson Jr. Student Recreation Center at Texas State Technical College Waco. Tickets will be on sale at the door starting at ten dollars.
