Northern Arizona Wranglers News Release
HENDERSON, Nev. - The Northern Arizona Wranglers earned themselves a bounce back victory on the road, defeating the Vegas Knight Hawks by a score of 36-27.
Friday's night's game opened with the Knight Hawks taking a 7-0 lead over the Wranglers. The Wranglers offense came with a methodical rebuttal, as running back Jarrod Ware Jr. closed the drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown. On the ensuing possession, Vegas missed their field goal attempt and the Wranglers were set up nicely. The score remained at 7-7 with the Wranglers in possession of the football as the first quarter came to a close.
To start the second quarter, Northern Arizona took a 10-7 lead over Vegas with a field goal, courtesy of kicker Brandon Fischer. The Wranglers defense came back out and forced a turnover on downs, as momentum was continuing to swing in favor of Northern Arizona. Wranglers wide receiver Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman took a short pass from quarterback Garrett Kettle and broke some tackles on his way to the end zone. The Wranglers were now in front of the Knight Hawks by a score of 16-7. On the following possession, Vegas answered with a touchdown of their own in just four plays. Vegas pulled within two points of Northern Arizona, with a 16-14 score. Neither team was able to capitalize on their next possession, and the score remained the same going into halftime, in favor of the Wranglers.
The Wranglers came out of the half swinging for the fences. Wranglers wide receiver Andre Williams took the first kickoff of the second half for the touchdown, but it was called back due to a taunting penalty on Williams. The Wranglers offense overcame that adversity, and still ended their drive with a touchdown. Kettle found wide receiver Jerrime Neal open for the three-yard score. On the very next drive, the Knight Hawks responded once again, with a touchdown. The third quarter ended with a score of 23-21, with the Wranglers still maintaining the lead.
Just a few plays into the start of the fourth quarter, Kettle threw a touchdown pass to Ware Jr. This touchdown marked Ware Jr.'s second score of the game, one on the ground and one through the air. The Knight Hawks didn't take long to return the favor, scoring another touchdown. The game remained with a score that held a difference of two points between both teams. The Wranglers delivered their final offensive blow on the following drive, with a rushing touchdown from wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski. This touchdown left the score at 36-27, in favor of Northern Arizona. That score is where the game would end, as the Wranglers defense came up with another fourth down stop.
The Wranglers look revitalized this week, pulling off a much needed victory. The Wranglers will play the Tucson Sugar Skulls on road next Saturday before returning to Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center on May 13th.
