Wranglers Control Travs Early In 7-0 Shutout

Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, Wichita, KS – The Wichita Wranglers (5-10) rallied for three runs in the first inning and went on to send the Arkansas Travelers (10-5) to a 7-0 loss, their fourth loss in five games. On the night they were shutout for the first time in the 2005 season, the Travs also collected just three hits their lowest output of the season. Wichita RHP Kyle Middleton (1-2) allowed just two base hits while walking four in six innings for the win. Arkansas LHP Tim Bittner (1-1) took the loss by allowing four runs (all earned) on nine hits in five innings, although he retired 9 of the last 10 batters he faced. OF Reggie Willits collected two of the Travs' three hits.

Wichita OF Wilkin Ruan started the first inning with a single to center and went to second base on a groundout. Justin Huber followed with a broken-bat single to right field sending Ruan to third. Josh Pressley, Brennan King and Cory Aldridge strung three RBI singles together for a 3-0 Wichita lead.

Ruan singled again with one out in the second inning, went to second on a groundout and stole third base before coming home on another single by Huber for a 4-0 lead.

Wichita put up an unearned run in the sixth inning and tallied twice in the eighth to put the game away.

Time of game was 2:34 and the paid attendance was 1,821.

The second game of the series is set for Saturday night with RHP Steven Shell taking the hill against Wichita RHP Brian Bass. First pitch will be thrown at 7:05 p.m.

NOTE: Suspensions were handed down by the Texas League office Friday dealing with last Saturday's bench clearing incident between the Travs and Wranglers in Little Rock. Wichita C Matt Tupman is suspended for four games, while Travs SS Erick Aybar is suspended for three games. Both players started serving their suspensions on Friday.
