Wranglers Announce 2022 Coaching Staff

The Northern Arizona Wranglers are eager to announce the hiring of the remaining coaching staff. Head coach Les Moss has assembled his supporting coaching staff that includes a familiar face for the Wranglers.

The defensive coordinator and assistant head coach will be Rob Keefe. Moss and Keefe have coached together for several years, including last season in the IFL with the Iowa Barnstormers. Keefe is "super pumped" to work with coach Moss again this season. Prior to 2021, Keefe was the head coach of the Albany Empire with Moss as his assistant head coach in 2018 & 2019. In his first season as head coach in Albany, Keefe led the Empire to the semifinal round of the playoffs in the arena football league. The following year, the Empire won the Arena Bowl championship with Keefe as the head coach. Moss and Keefe have had major success together as coaches, but before they were winning together, they coached against each other. Keefe was the head coach of the Orlando Predators for 3 seasons from 2014-2016. During this span, Moss was the head coach of the Jacksonville Sharks. Keefe and Moss went head-to-head in the conference semifinals two years in a row in 2015 & 2016.

Coach Keefe started his coaching career in 2009 as the defensive backs coach for the Spokane Shock. The Shock won an the AF2 Arena Cup in 2009 with Keefe as their defensive backs coach. When Spokane joined the AFL in 2010, Keefe was promoted to head coach and guided the Shock to an Arena Bowl victory in his first season as head coach, becoming the youngest coach in AFL history to win a championship. In Keefe's second season as head coach for the Shock in 2011, Spokane lost to the Arizona Rattlers in the conference semifinals of the AFL playoffs. Following his first head coaching job, Keefe was the defensive coordinator of the Utah Blaze from 2012 to 2013. As a player, Keefe was a defensive back for Mercyhurst college, where he graduated with his degree in Criminal Justice. In 2006, he played defensive back for the Spokane Shock in their AF2 inaugural season and won an Arena Cup championship. Keefe also played one season in the AFL for the Philadelphia Soul in 2008, the Soul won the Arena Bowl that season. Keefe is the only person in arena football history to win an Arena Cup in the AF2 and an Arena Bowl in the AFL both as a player and a coach. Keefe is from the Washington, D.C. area and currently splits his time between living in Orlando, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Keefe is always ready to travel to where the football takes him.

The offensive coordinator for the Wranglers in 2022 will be Rod Windsor. Coach Windsor spent the last two years with the Arizona Rattlers as their Wide Receiver coach. He joined the Rattlers in 2018 as the offensive coordinator, Windsor was a wide receiver for the Rattlers for 7 seasons in the AFL. In 2010, Windsor won AFL rookie of the year during his first season in Arizona. He took the AFL by storm in his first season posting over 2300 yards receiving and 47 touchdowns. After his breakout season in 2010 with the Rattlers, Windsor spent time with the Cleveland Browns in the NFL and caught two touchdowns in two preseason games during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. As a player, Windsor was an integral piece of 3 Arena Bowl championships, earning an Arena Bowl MVP with the Rattlers in 2013. Two of his championship wins came the Rattlers, and the third with the Washington Valor in 2018. Coach Windsor began building his coaching resume in 2017 during his final season as a player, he was the offensive coordinator coach at North High School in Phoenix.

Coach Winsor is from Bessemer, Alabama but has built an impressive legacy in Arizona as an arena player and now coach. Winsor graduated from Jess Lanier High School in his hometown and moved west to play college football. Windsor played college football as a quarterback at Western New Mexico, he switched positions to wide receiver for his senior season. Windsor obtained his associates degree in General Studies while attending Western New Mexico University. For coach Winsor, his influence to play football came from his uncle. His uncle was named the National Junior College Player of the Year during his playing time in Sothern Mississippi. Windsor's uncle also played football at the arena level. Winsor has been living in Phoenix on and off since 2010 when he joined the Arizona Rattlers. He will remain in Arizona to join the Wranglers up North.

Dave Moran will return to the NAZ Wranglers for 2022 stepping into the role of director of player personnel as well as assistant coach. Coach Moran was the special teams coordinator and eventually took over as the defensive coordinator for the Wranglers in the second half of the season. Under Moran, the Wranglers defense was much improved during the second half of 2021. Moran is very excited to return to the Wranglers coaching staff and have the responsibility of putting together the team roster. Coach Moran is from Prescott Valley and resides here currently. He graduated from Bradshaw Mountain High School in 1996 and would eventually become the head coach of his high school alma matter.

'Coach Moran' is a familiar title, he is the third-generation football coach in his family. His grandfather, Ralph Moran had over 40 years of coaching experience and was inducted into the Arizona High School Athletics hall of fame. His father, Steve Moran also coached football for over 35 years and led Bradshaw Mountain High School to six state semifinal appearances between 1984 & 1998. The third-generation Coach Moran has been building his own coaching resume in Northern Arizona starting at Sinagua High School in Flagstaff in 2002 where he was the defensive coordinator and then the head coach until 2007. In 2008 he was the assistant defensive coordinator at Bradshaw, then earned the defensive coordinator position at Independence High School from 2009-2010. He left Independence to become the defensive coordinator of Prescott High School in 2011 and eventually obtained that defensive coordinator title in 2013 with the high school that he graduated from. Moran was the head coach of the Bradshaw Mountain High School football team from 2014 to 2016 after one year of being the defensive coordinator at the school. In his playing days, Moran was a quarterback at Oregon State before transferring to Northern Arizona University and excelling as a safety. At NAU, he was a defensive team captain and still holds the Lumberjack record for the most interceptions in a single game with 3 INT's. Moran earned his bachelor's degree at NAU in Interdisciplinary Studies: Public Administration.
