Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - After dropping their last two games, Worcester looked to take down the Starfires at Hanover Insurance Park on Sunday.
It didn't take long for Worcester to get on the scoreboard. Back-to-back singles by John Thrasher and Jakob Sessa followed by a double steal put runners on second and third. Tyler Becker hit a ground ball to second basemen Jeremiah Vargas who made an errant throw to first base allowing both Thrasher and Sessa to score.
In the fifth inning, Sessa hit a towering solo home-run to right field to increase the lead to 3-0.
Sean Murphy singled in the sixth for Westfield, which was followed by another single by Elijah Dale putting runners on first and second. Matt Costanza then hit a ground ball to third basemen Ben McNeill who bobbled the ball allowing Murphy to score.
The 'Hearts answered in the bottom of the eighth with an insurance run. Jack Gardner walked, and took second on a wild pitch. Trevor Johnson replaced Gardner and took third on a passed ball. Paul Coumoulos hit a sac-fly to bring in Johnson making the score 4-1.
Jakob Barker recorded the save for Worcester in the ninth pitching a 1-2-3 inning. Angelo Baez got the win for Worcester going seven innings allowing only one run (unearned) while giving up eight hits and striking out ten.
