Worcester Sharks Sign Defenseman Matt Taormina

WORCESTER, MA - Worcester Sharks (@WorcesterSharks) General Manager Joe Will has announced that the club has signed defenseman Matt Taormina to an AHL contract for the 2014-15 season. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Taormina, 27, enters his sixth professional season after spending last year with Syracuse (AHL), Tampa Bay (NHL), and Springfield (AHL). The 5-10, 185lb defenseman has compiled 121 points (31-90-121) in 232 AHL games with Binghamton, Lowell, Albany, Syracuse, and Springfield. The native of Warren, Michigan has also recorded 12 points (4-8-12) in 56 NHL games with New Jersey and Tampa Bay. A product of Providence College, the former Friar ranked 7th among AHL defenseman with 50 points (10-40-50) during the 2009-10 season with the Lowell Devils.

The 2014-15 season marks the 20th season of AHL action at the DCU Center in the city of Worcester. Over 3.8 million fans have attended either an IceCats (11 seasons) or Sharks (9th season) game in downtown Worcester since 1994.
