Worcester Sharks News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Viatcheslav Voynov scored 1:55 into the overtime period and the Worcester Sharks were eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs, 2-1, in game six at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night.

Ryan Vesce scored the only goal of the game for Worcester as the Sharks lost the best-of-seven series, four games to two.

Worcester captain Vesce (3) scored the first goal of the game for the second time this series as his bad angle shot from the left-wing was deflected over Jonathan Bernier, just 1:45 into the first period of play. The unassisted goal was just the second time this series that Worcester had opened the scoring. It would be the only goal of the period as the Sharks held a 9-7 advantage on shots.

Manchester evened the score, 1-1, on the power play, at the 9:06 mark of the second period, when Trevor Lewis (6) poked home a loose rebound after Alex Stalock could not handle a Voynov blast from the blue line. Stalock kept the game tied late in the period as he made a sprawling save from his back. The period ended with the scored tied, 1-1. Manchester outshot Worcester, 12-10.

Neither team scored in the third period as both goaltenders made big stops during the frame. Worcester outshot Manchester, 10-6.

Voynov (1) scored 1:55 into overtime on an odd-man rush and the Monarchs won, 2-1. Manchester had the only two shots of overtime.
