NEW LONDON, Conn. (August 5, 2003) – Mohegan Wolves lineman Charlie Cook has been named the arenafootball2 ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar efforts last Saturday night in the Wolves' 50-47 first round playoff victory at Cape Fear.

This is Cook's second af2 ADT Defensive Player of the Week honor of 2003.

Cook, a 6-foot, 290-pound lineman in his second af2 season, registered 3.5 total tackles against the Wildcats, including a game-high two sacks. His second sack came on the game's final play to clinch the Wolves win.

"Charlie really came up with a big effort for us on Saturday," Mohegan Head Coach Mark Stoute commented. "He got after the quarterback like he's done all season. The last play of the game says it all. He wasn't going to let us lose.

He was also recognized for his record-setting play on July 8 against Bossier City. In Mohegan's 38-26 home win against the Battle Wings on July 5, Cook set two team records, one for most sacks in a single game (3.5) and one for most sacks in a single season (10.5). He finished the year tied for second in the league in sacks with 11.5.

Next up for Cook and the Wolves (11-6) is an American Conference semifinal playoff game this Friday night (Aug. 8) against the South Division Champion Tennessee Valley Vipers (14-2). Friday's game will be played at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala., home of the Vipers.

If the Wolves defeat Tennessee Valley, they will move on to American Conference Championship game and play either at Albany (Saturday, Aug. 16) or at Macon (Friday, Aug. 15).
