Wolves Bring In A Pair Of Rookies

May 10, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Manchester Wolves News Release

The arenafootball2 league office announced that the Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's professional af2 team, have been assigned defensive back Matt Castillo and wide receiver Arel Gordon.

Gordon (5'8,175), a rookie from the University of Maine, will come to the Wolves after a four-year career (2003-2006) with the Black Bears. The Rochester, NY native proved to be a threat as both a wide receiver and kick returner on the football field and as a sprinter in track and field. The speedy Gordon caught 158 passes for 1,308 yards and six touchdowns, while collecting 1,766 kick return yards for six touchdowns during his collegiate career. Gordon was named to the All-American Third Team by the Sports Network and First Team All-Atlantic 10 team in 2004 and Third Team All-Atlantic 10 in 2005. Most recently Gordon was presented with The Roger Castle Male Outstanding Performer of the Year award for his efforts in Track and Field as he set three new school records in the 55 meters, 60 meters and 200 meters.

"By adding Gordon I now feel like we have one of the fastest receiving groups in the league," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "He'll compliment a pretty good receiving core."

Castillo (6'2,195), a rookie from Florida International University, will come to the Wolves after a four-year career (2002-2005) for the Golden Bears. During his career Castillo played in 38 games and amassed 102 total tackles as a corner back. The Miami Springs, FL native was a training camp casualty by the Florida Firecats of the af2 earlier this year.

"Castillo was brought in to add some depth to a position where we've had a lot of injuries at so far this season," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "He put up great numbers in college and I'm hoping he can really help us out."

The Wolves (2-3) will take on their East Division Rival Albany Conquest (2-3) this Friday, May 11, at 7:05pm on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. The first 750 kids through the doors will receive a FREE Spring pass to Canobie Lake Park while everyone in attendance shall receive a FREE VIP discount coupon good for $4.00 off admission to the park!
