Erie SeaWolves News Release

Albert Cartwright hit the first pitch from Seawolves' pitcher Matt Crouse out of the park. After all of the dust settled, that run was the difference as the Reading FightinPhils split the doubleheader with Erie by winning 7-6.

Cartwright's blast was the first of two hit by the Fightins, the second coming from Jim Murphy in the fourth, which gave Akron a 3-1 lead. Erie had previously tied the game in the third when Hernan Perez ran over catcher Sebastian Valle to turn an out into a run.

The real action started in the bottom of the fifth. Trailing 3-2, Erie tied the game when Daniel Fields hit a solo shot to tie off the game. Tyler Collins would double and score on a James McCann single to give Erie the 4-3 lead. The Seawolves added two insurance runs: first an RBI single by Luis Castillo made it 5-3. After the bases were loaded with 'Wolves, Eugenio Suarez drew one of his five walks to make it 6-3 Erie.

The game was then handed over to the Erie bullpen, which fell victim to hot bats from Reading. The Fightins lead off the sixth with a walk and a double to put runners in scoring position. A groundout by Derrick Mitchell cut the Erie lead to two. Zach Collier then tripled to cut the lead to just one. Valle then tied the game with a triple and would score the game winning run on a Anthony Hewitt sacrifice.

The Seawolves had a chance to walk off with the win after loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, but Juan Sosa recovered to retire Fields, Collins and McCann.
