Erie SeaWolves News Release

The recipe for Seawolves success has not changed this season: strong starting pitching, timely hitting and a great bullpen finish. In game one of a double headervs Reading, this recipe created another Erie win, this one a 3-1 beauty over the Reading FightinPhils.

In a battle of aces, Warwick Saupold got the best of top Phillies prospect Jesse Biddle. Saupold put himself in trouble early, allowing base runners in all but two innings. However, the native Australian continually worked out of jams to hold Reading to a single run in the fifth. Anthony Hewitt would score on a single from Edgar Duran.

The Seawolves jumped on Biddle early, scoring two runs in the first. Eugenio Suarez led off with a walk and would score on a fielder's choice from Tyler Collins, who tallied the second run when one of James McCann's three hits brought the outfielder home.

Erie would add an insurance run in the fourth inning. McCann doubled and set up Luis Castillo. The birthday boy doubled off the right field wall to bring McCann home and give Erie a 3-0 lead at the time.

Saupold would finish with his fourth straight start of six innings or more, coming out in the final inning to allow Justin Souza to pick up his team leading seventh save of 2013. The win put the Seawolves at 11 games over the .500 mark, a milestone last reached in 2009.
