January 20, 2009 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Wisconsin Wolfpack News Release
The Wisconsin Wolfpack signed record-setting quarterback Tom Stetzer for their inaugural season in 2009. Stetzer has an impressive resume that includes two indoor championship rings, both as a member of the Reading (Penn.) Express of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA).
"We are excited to have Tom come to our team," said head coach Jordan Kopac. "He is a very smart player and will help us improve right away. He brings very successful experiences with him. Having a guy that knows how to win will really help us build the foundation for the Wolfpack. I think that he will be a great leader for us that our guys can rally around."
Stetzer was truly the steam driving the Express train to multiple championships. Stetzer's record as the starting quarterback was an astounding 29-6. In 2006, Stetzer threw for 3,500 yards and 72 touchdowns, both Reading Express franchise records, en route to a AIFA North Division Championship.
Stetzer dazzled fans by shattering his own records in 2007. Stetzer threw for over 4,200 yards and 83 touchdown on the way to another AIFA North Division Championship.
Stetzer owns Express franchise records with 7,700 passing yards, 155 touchdown passes, 8,000 yards total offense, and 29 wins. Stetzer was named to the All-AIFA team in both 2006 and 2007.
"Tom is a modest guy who doesn't like to speak of his own accomplishments, he just shows you every time he has a football in his hands," said Ron Tyner, General Manager. "The great thing about him is that when he plays the game you can see in his eyes that he still has fun with it, its not a job to him."
Stetzer played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville from 2000-2003. He was starting quarterback for the high-octane Pioneer passing attack for four years, finishing his career ranked 10th all-time in Division III for career total offense and 12th all-time in career passing yards.
Stetzer owns 15 school passing records at UW-Platteville and four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) records. He was named All-WIAC three times during his illustrious career with the Pioneers.
Stetzer was also named the national player of the week three times during his career. In addition, he was the UW-Platteville Male Athlete of the Year twice and the Platteville Offensive player of the Year three times during his time as a Pioneer. He capped his career off as the Pioneer Player of the Year in his senior season.
Stetzer's accolades extended beyond the playing field, as he was also named the Max Sparger WIAC Scholar-Athlete his senior year.
"One of the most impressive things to me is the fact that he not only has received awards for his athletic ability, he has also received awards based on his academic ability," said Tyner. "That shows me that he is a well rounded individual and the type of player that we want to be a part of the Wolfpack. I couldn't be more excited for people like Tom and his wife to join our already great family."
