WNBA announces Los Angeles Sparks first round playoff schedule

August 7, 2006 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) News Release


NEW YORK (August 7, 2006) - With the Los Angeles Sparks (23-9) having already clinched the top seed in the WNBA's Western Conference, the league today announced the club's schedule for the first round of the 2006 WNBA Playoffs.

With six days remaining on the WNBA regular season schedule, the Sacramento Monarchs currently rank second in the Western Conference and can lock up that spot with either a loss by the Houston Comets tomorrow or a win of their own on Wednesday.

At present, Houston (17-14) maintains the third best record in the Conference due to a tiebreaker edge over Seattle (17-14). The Phoenix Mercury (14-16), currently in fifth place in the Conference must win all four of their remaining games and get help in the form of losses by Houston and Seattle in the race for the fourth and final Western Conference playoff spot.
