Wizards Defeat Energy in Showcase Matchup

Orem, UT January 6, 2009: Wizards guard David Bell nailed 28 points on 5 for 8 from the arc enroute to a Wizards victory over Central Division leader Iowa Energy 115 - 110 as part of the 2009 NBA D-League Showcase being played at the McKay Event Center in Orem Utah.

"We've been waiting for this one for a long time," said the Adidas player of the game Wizards forward Renaldo Major. "They beat us up pretty good to start the season, so I was happy with the way we played and got this victory."

A back and forth first half started slowly for the Wizards as Iowa tipped off the game with energy outscoring Dakota in the paint 26 to 12 after two periods of play. Energy forward Cartier Martin lead all at the half with 17 of his final 32 points, while Iowa saw a three point advantage after one period turn into a two point advantage to Dakota 59-57 at the intermission.

The third quarter was all Wizards as they were the ones with the energy to start the third outscoring Iowa 25 to 20. Shooting 48 percent from the field Dakota lead by as many as 10 mainly in part by strong shooting from the arch. Wizards guard Blake Ahearn was 3 of 6 from long distance to end the afternoon with 15 points to go with his 9 assists. Other Wizards in double digits was guard Maurice Baker who finished the victory 17 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds.

Iowa, now 9-3 on the season, had four players finish in double figures with center Courtney Sims grabbing a double double (21 points, 13 rebounds). Guard Larry Ayuso finished the match up with 13 points, while Othyus Jeffers hit 23 points to go with his eight boards in the lose.

The Wizards, Now 10-7 on the season, will play the Reno Bighorns tomorrow evening at 8:15 PM CT as they wrap up their 2009 Showcase Experience. Iowa also plays on Wednesday as they compete with another divisional rival in the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Thus is the third meeting for the Energy and Mad Ants in five days with the record even in those games at one each.
