Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Kansas City Wizards (8-10-9, 33 pts) host the New England Revolution (12-8-7, 43 pts) Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT in a match presented by Xbox. The Wizards enter with an eight-game home-undefeated streak (5-0-3) looking for three crucial points in the push for the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Wizards are currently one point out of the final playoff spot, trailing Western Conference teams Colorado and FC Dallas for the final wildcard position.
New England has already clinched a playoff spot by way of last weekend's results and will be without attacking players Adam Cristman (injury) Sainey Nyassi (Gambia national team duty) and Kenny Mansally (Gambia national team duty). Kansas City will be without midfielder Kerry Zavagnin, who has an ankle contusion. The Revolution won the first match-up of the season 3-1 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on April 9.
Attacking players Josh Wolff and Davy Arnaud have led Kansas City's offense over the last month. Since Wolff rejoined the Wizards from 1860 Munich of Germany's second division this summer, the pair has combined for six goals and four assists. Each has earned a Sierra Mist Goal of the Week award in the last month, after Arnaud hit a 35-yard rocket September 13 against Los Angeles and Wolff converted a bicycle kick from close range September 27 at Chivas USA. Newly acquired midfielder Herculez Gomez has also been dangerous for Kansas City on the right flank and with service from dead ball situations since he joined from the Colorado Rapids early last month.
Saturday's match will feature several Breast Cancer Awareness activities sponsored by American Family Insurance. Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman will wear a pink jersey during the game that the Wizards will auction off via kcwizards.com. American Family will match the sale price and donate all proceeds to Young Survival Coalition, an organization supporting those who are dealing or have dealt with Breast Cancer.
For Saturday's game, Gate A will be closed. Season ticket holders who park with red or blue parking passes are asked to enter CommunityAmerica Ballpark through Gate B. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive thunder sticks courtesy of Xbox.
