Sporting Kansas City News Release

The Kansas City Wizards will hold a doubleheader Saturday, October 18 with Graceland University of Lamoni, Iowa. Wizards midfielder Kevin Souter starred at Graceland for three years, helping the school to the NAIA National Championship in 2006, before joining the Wizards through an open tryout in February. Graceland will host Missouri Valley College of Marshall, Missouri at 3:30 p.m. CT at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Wizards will then host the San Jose Earthquakes at 7 p.m. CT on Fan Appreciation Night.

"We all at Graceland are very excited about this great opportunity," Graceland Head Coach Angel Monroy said. "The team has been supporting the Wizards and following Kevin Souter's success all season. It is a privilege to be asked to play before the Wizards and we hope to have a big Graceland crowd to support both games."

"We are extremely excited to play against conference rival Graceland at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on October 18th," Missouri Valley Head Coach Vladimir Simic said. "This game is a great opportunity to promote Missouri Valley College, Heart of America Conference and NAIA college soccer in general. It's not every day that two NAIA college teams have an opportunity to play a game at a professional stadium before two high-quality MLS teams."

Graceland enters this weekend's match with a 6-3-1 record in NAIA competition. Missouri Valley is 5-5-0 entering this weekend's game. Graceland will play Liberty-based William Jewell College next Tuesday before playing a "home" game against Missouri Valley Saturday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Fans wishing to watch Graceland play Missouri Valley must have a ticket to the Wizards match that evening. For tickets in the Graceland or Missouri Valley sections, contact Wizards representative Emily Hanover at ehanover@kcwizards.com or (913) 387-3838.

Souter, a native of Portsoy, Scotland, has come on in recent weeks as a heavy contributor to the Wizards first team. He made his MLS debut Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Galaxy and one of his boyhood-heroes, David Beckham. Souter then scored his first MLS goal one week later in a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC. He made his first MLS start last weekend in a 1-1 tie with the Chicago Fire and looks poised to be an integral component in the Wizards squad for the push toward the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs.
