Birmingham Barons News Release

Jake Eder threw six-plus shutout innings to lead the Birmingham Barons to a 5-0 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas before 4,549 at Regions Field on Friday night. Brooks Baldwin and Jacob Burke had two hits apiece to lead the Barons offense. With the Barons win, it is the eighth shutout of the season.

Winning pitcher LHP Jake Eder (2-1, 4.01) pitched 6.1 innings, giving up only three hits, no runs, and two walks with eight strikeouts. Eder retired 14 batters in a row in the Barons' win. The lefty from Boynton Beach, Florida, threw 91 pitches and cruised for much of the game. In the sixth inning, the first two runners reached base for Rocket City, but a double play ball and a strikeout cleared Eder of any serious scoring chances for the Trash Pandas.

In the bottom of the first inning, Terrell Tatum singled, stole second, and, with a Jacob Gonzalez strikeout on a wild pitch, moved Tatum to third base and scored on the fielding error by the Trash Pandas first baseman, allowing Tatum to score. Later in the inning, Tim Elko hit a deep fly ball to left field, scoring Gonzalez on the sacrifice fly. Burke's RBI single scored Baldwin, and the Barons took a 3-0 early lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Edgar Quero singled on a ground ball to right field, scoring Tatum and Gonzalez. With the two runs, the Barons led 5-0. The Barons had seven hits in the game but were only 2-14 with runners in scoring opportunities and had other chances but couldn't get the big hit.

Tatum had a hit and two runs scored, and Quero had a single and two RBIs. Tatum, Baldwin, and Duke Ellis had stolen bases. Ellis leads the league with 34 on the season.
