Brevard County Manatees News Release
...The Brevard County Manatees conducted a mock election Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium as part of Voter Education Night. Officials from the Brevard County Elections Office were on hand to register qualified applicants to vote and to answer questions regarding the upcoming elections, explained ballots, etc.
To submit a ballot fans 18 and older had to enter their home zip code. Ballots were broken down by Brevard County, other Florida counties, and residences outside Florida. Those outside the state were counted only in the Presidential Election, for example, the couple from Indiana attending the game. Other Florida residents outside Brevard County were counted in the Presidential race and US Senate race. All Brevard County ballots were count en masse for all Brevard County political races.
This tabulation was in no way scientific as a person in District 15 could vote for his candidate and in other districts, but most people just voted their district and stopped there.
Here are the winners from tonight's mock election with their percent of the overall vote in their race:
President George W Bush (63%)
US Senate (vote for 2) Mel Martinez (27%) Mike McCollum (23%)
Brevard County School Board, District 3 Amy Kneessy (33%)
Brevard County School Board, District 4 Larry Hughes (47%)
Brevard County Sheriff Jack Parker (53%)
House, District 15 Dave Weldon (74%)
House, District 30 Thad Altman (71%)
House, District 31 Mitch Needelman (70%)
House, District 32 Bob Allen (51%)
Brevard County Commission, District 1 Truman Scarborough (53%)
Brevard County Commission, District 3 Helen Voltz (51%)
Brevard County Commission, District 5 Jackie Colon (72%)
Property Appraiser Jim Ford (73%)
Tax Collector Rod Northcutt (60%)
Brevard County Judge, Group 4 DEAD HEAT Rhonda Babb (50%) Benjamin Garagozlo (50%)
Sebastian Inlet, District 1 Jenny Lawton Seal (51%)
If you attended tonight's game and voted, thank you for taking the time to participate in this mock election. Hopefully everybody is now registered to vote and will do their civic duty and vote in the Florida primary election next week and the US General Election in November, no matter what party or candidate you support, just vote, it's what makes America great!
The Manatees dropped a heartbreaker tonight against the Daytona Cubs, 5-4, with the Cubs scoring the winning run in the top of the 9th inning.
The teams square off with a doubleheader at The Farm tomorrow night. Gates open at 4:30 pm and the first 1000 fans in the gate will receive a free Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade. Immediately following game #2 of the DH we'll have a fantastic Fireworks extravaganza, courtesy of our friends at Space Coast Early Intervention Center. That's two games, frozen lemonade, fireworks, and a fun night out for the whole family. Tickets for Box and Reserved Seats are $7 and include a second Manatees game ticket to the Thursday, September 2nd game against the Vero Beach Dodgers next week! Two tickets for $7.
C'mon out for a great night at the ballpark.
