BLUEFIELD, WV - One Bluefield Blue Jay is already on the move after playing in just 7 games with the team. Third baseman Carl Wise was called up to the organization's Class A Short Season team in Vancouver on Tuesday. He will now play for the Vancouver Canadians.

He played his college ball at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. His junior campaign would be his last as an amateur. He batted .313 with 70 RBI's and 12 home runs. He also had 18 doubles and 3 triples for a team that went 45-13 and made it to the Tallahassee Regional of the 2015 NCAA tournament.

The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Wise in the 4th round of the MLB draft back in June. The Blue Jays chose the Lexington, SC native expecting him to add hitting power from his third base position.

In 8 games with Bluefield, Wise hit .258 and drove in 5 runs. He always found himself right in the middle of manager Dennis Holmberg's batting order, either batting clean up or fifth in the lineup.

One of the highlights of Wise's short stint in Bluefield came when he hit a 2-out RBI single in the top of the 10th inning against the Kingsport Mets on Sunday afternoon. That RBI turned out to be the difference in an 8-7 win for the Blue Jays. There were times when Wise struggled in the field with Bluefield. Never was that more apparent than when he committed 2 errors in the same inning in a game against Burlington on Tuesday night.

But Wise never let the mishaps get to him.

Later in that same game, Wise charged a slow rolling ground ball that was hit to third, picked it up bare-handed, and fired a laser over to first for an out as he fell flat on his stomach. It was the play of the game in a closely contested matchup between the Royals and the Blue Jays.

The 21-year old also went 2 for 5 with a double at the plate that night. It would turn out to be his last game in a Bluefield uniform.

Wise left the team hotel in Burlington at 3:30 AM Wednesday morning to meet his new team in Vancouver. He'll try to build on the success that he displayed in his short time with the Bluefield.
