Wise Named Player of the Week

MIDLAND, MI - Great Lakes Loons catcher / designated hitter J.T. Wise was named the Midwest League's Player of the Week (8/30-9/5), bringing the team's total to a Midwest League-best eight on the season.

Over the week, Wise batted .500 (11Hx22AB) against his opponents, producing five extra-base hits and 10 RBI to establish a .571 on-base percentage and a .909 slugging percentage. Wise's week was highlighted by his performance on 9/3, where he went 3-for-3 with one walk, a pair of back-to-back home runs and four RBI to lead the Loons to their 5-3 win over Lake County.

In 86 games with the Loons, Wise holds a .309 batting average with 44 runs, 93 hits, 23 doubles, 12 home runs, and 62 RBI. The 24-year-old really got going in the second half of the season to establish a batting average of .400 since the All-Star break on 6/22. Wise has posted impressive batting averages over the final three months: .395 in July, .373 in August, and .476 in September.

Throughout the season, the Midwest League selects one offensive player and one pitcher for its player of the week awards. The Great Lakes Loons had eight Player of the Week selections this season: Jerry Sands three times (4/8-4/18, 4/19-4/25, 5/3-5/9), Will Savage (5/17-5/23), Elisaul Pimentel (5/31-6/6), Brian Cavazos-Galvez (7/5-7/11), Josh Wall (7/5-7/11), and J.T. Wise this week.

Wise and the Loons return to Dow Diamond Thursday, September 7 to host the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the second game of the Midwest League's Quarterfinals. The playoff game, which will include a $1 Family Feast Night courtesy of Chemical Bank, is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and will be followed by a Fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning. Gates will open at 6:00.
